CHAPTER SEVEN
Clementine
To say the last week had been a whirlwind would be an understatement. Finn Bass had consumed me in all ways possible. He gave me an office down the hall from his so that when I was working on Bass Financial stuff, I would have my own space. It was very nice, and he had definitely gone above and beyond. Benny was thrilled with how many projects Finn had us working on, or should I say, he had me working on, and he wanted to make sure that this was my priority.
There was a knock on my door, and Finn burst in without waiting for me to say anything.
âWhatâs the point of knocking if youâre just going to burst in anyway?â I asked, hitting send on an email.
âCome on. Letâs go,â he said, as he motioned to the door.
I groaned. This was a habit of his. Giving me no warning before coming in and demanding I go with him somewhere.
I grabbed my purse. âWhere are we going?â
Once we were on the elevator and heading down to the ground floor, he finally spoke. âLunch.â
âLunch? Shouldnât you ask if Iâm hungry? Lunch is not part of our contractual agreement.â I chuckled, because as much as I wanted to be annoyed, I wasnât. Weâd been eating both lunch and dinner together since the day weâd met.
âWe have important business to discuss, and I prefer to do it over a meal.â The doors opened and he placed his hand on my lower back, hurrying me to the car. I waved at Carlan, and he nodded as he opened the door.
Finn barely spoke in the car ride over, so I took the quiet to mean he had other things on his mind, and I checked a few emails and sent a note to Benny with the signed contract from Bill Glasco.
Once we arrived at my favorite café, I smiled when we made our way inside. People always stared at Finn, as he was a strikingly good-looking man and he carried himself in a way that commanded all the attention in the room.
The hostess greeted us and took us to a table in the back that offered privacy. He always liked to sit in the back of restaurants, and I assumed maybe the staring bothered him. I guess looking that good had its downfalls.
âWhat is with you today?â I asked, as I perused the menu. âYouâre moodier than usual.â
âFunny you should ask, Clementine. I am in a mood, and I believe youâre to blame.â He paused when the server walked over, and he motioned for me to go first. He was so flustered today. I wasnât used to seeing him like this. After I placed my order, he ordered a sandwich and hurried the server away.
âHow am I to blame? Iâve been working my ass off,â I hissed, offended by his comment. There was a comfort between us that Iâd never had with a man before. Iâd also never had a male friend like this, especially one that Iâd already kissed and continued to fantasize about.
