The Aftermath

“Writing helps me release energy trapped inside my soul. It’s how I communicate. I’m not suave, and I don’t have that typical rock star bad boy sexy thing going on. This is me.” –Caspian

The entirety of the next week is spent locked in my room working. I have interviews via Skype and the response to our film has been tremendous. The scripts are pouring in. I have job offers left and right. It’s everything I’ve wanted. All Caspian’s brothers and their families are here, but I barely see them except for dinner. Caspian is locked in his room writing, hardly bothering to eat or shower. Ed tells me not to bother him when he’s in a mood like this, and I do as I’m told. The loneliness is almost unbearable. I’m in a house full of welcoming strangers, as silly as that sounds. Pearl and James spend hours sitting in the waiting room at the hospital for Alyne to awake from surgery. They don’t want Bella there, so I graciously offer to watch her in the evenings while they’re gone. She’s an easy child. Barbies and Ponies keep her busy.

I’m sitting in front of my laptop, responding to some interview questions when an IM pops up.

Tucker: Trouble in paradise yet?

Ginger: Someone died. Show some respect.

Tucker: Sorry, you missed the entire festival. It was lonely without you.

Ginger: Wish I could have been there.

Tucker: How long are you going to be there? Your career won’t wait forever you know.

Ginger: I know.

I’m not sure what to say. I do wish I could have been there, but being here with Caspian is more important, though I doubt he would even realize if I left.

Tucker: Hope to work with you again. Really, Ginger. You are an amazing actress and everyone kept going on and on about you.

Ginger: Really?

Tucker: Yes. There’re even talks of a sequel, a much bigger sequel.

I don’t answer because I hadn’t thought that far ahead. Months in another country? The first film was shot in Australia. Any movie I take will require me to travel. Could I do that after Caspian gave up his dream to move to LA and be with me? Would it be fair? I close my laptop and try to calm my nerves. What felt so certain last week, is now gone. All that remains is a lurching in my stomach, an aching in my bones. I stand up and walk to our adjoining bathroom and knock on the door leading to Caspian’s room.

“What?” he snaps.

I inch the door open. He’s on the bed huddled around a paper and pen. His guitar sits beside of him and his laptop is perched on a TV table in front of him.

“Cas?”

“What’s up?”

“I wanted to share something with you. The response to my movie has been pretty positive. Rumors of sequels and stuff like that.” I roll my eyes and smile as I say it in a joking sort of way to gage his reaction.

He looks up, and for a split second, I recognize something in his eyes.
