For topping, in a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk; mix until dough forms ball. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot fruit. Bake for 25 minutes, or until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.
