Adam—Percy worked at DGT for several years until he became extremely hostile toward Ev. He accused Ev of stealing his research but it was proven that it was the other way around.

Margaux is a French scientist with a similar field of study. She visited Ev more than a year ago wanting to work together, but he turned her down.

“What kind of name is Mar-Gox?” Javi asked.

“It’s pronounced Mar-Go.”

“Silly French people with their weird spellings.”

“Yeah, like the English language is so perfect,” I chuckled.

“Good point.”

The second email was large and took time to download. Finally, I got it open and began checking out every DGT staff member one by one. It was definitely not an interesting task and by the time I finished the Bs I was totally bored.

Thankfully I found what I was searching for in the Ds. Leo Dennison, age twenty-nine, had worked at DGT for a year and two months.

“How do we prove this guy’s part of the Prava?” Javi paced to the window and stared out.

I sat back in my chair and stroked my chin. “I wonder if The Oregonian has done any articles on them.” The daily paper wasn’t the New York Times but it was decent.

“Try the website.”

A few minutes later, Javi stood over my shoulder as we read a short online story about the radical faction.

“There he is. That’s him.” I pointed to a man in the middle of a posed group shot with Alik, Kuzma, and a few others. There were first names but no last. It listed Leo Dennison as Leonid.

“What are the chances the reporter has their last names?” Javi stood up and put a hand on my shoulder for a second. I tried not to focus on the contact and how it made me feel. “He may have agreed to keep their names out of it.”

I grabbed my cell, called The Oregonian, and requested to talk to Selena Reese. I was rebuffed until I mentioned my name, then I was sent right through.

“This is Selena,” she answered.

“Hello, Ms. Reese, this is Adam Brand.”

“How can I help you, sir?”

“A while back you wrote a story on the Prava and took a picture with them.”

“That’s correct.”

“I noticed you didn’t include their last names.”

“Yes,” she said. “They only agreed to talk to me if I would use just their first names.”

“But the fact that you didn’t print them doesn’t mean you weren’t aware what they were.”

She paused and chuckled. “If you’re asking me if I know what their last names are, then yes, I do.”

“I need that information. I won’t publicize it—hell, I won’t tell a soul.”

“I’m sure you realize you are a highly sought-after man, Mr. Brand. You’re notoriously publicity shy and have never sat down for a one-on-one interview.”

Her bravado impressed me. “Are we talking a quid pro quo situation, Ms. Reese?”

“Not necessarily. I’ll give you the names regardless. I’m hoping you’ll consider allowing me into your home for an interview. I’m not after dirt, just an in-depth profile.”

“If I agree to such an interview, you will be the first person I call.
