“Sweetheart, nobody will judge you and Jane by looking at Lydia. I know you have three silly sisters.” As silly as a very silly mother could make them. “We will have no peace if I stop her going. Colonel Forster is a good man. He will keep an eye on her. There will be loads of girls there, much prettier and a bit older than Lydia. No soldier will be interested in a young girl like her, hardly more than a child. All that will happen is she will learn how unimportant she is. Anyway if she does get any worse, I shall be obliged to lock her away in a hospital or maybe in the attic!”
