CHAPTER

SEVENTEEN

NOEL

The guys are talking around me while I absentmindedly spin my mimosa glass in a circle on the table. Actually, no, I’m not absentminded—I’m preoccupied. With Bellamy.

He’s been at the forefront of my every thought since we left the hotel in Los Angeles. The weight of his body covering mine, the fullness of having him deep inside me, the sticky press of our cheeks. I thought I was fixated on him before, but that is nothing compared to this all-consuming obsession.

And then our phone call. The brightness went out of his eyes as he talked about his family’s finances. His shoulders drooped like the weight he carried was too heavy. Seeing him like that made my hackles rise in protectiveness and my mind immediately launched into all the ways I could fix things for him.

Did his dad need an at-home nursing service? I could pay for that. Did he want to start a college fund for Twyla? I could seed one for him. I was this close to offering him a card on my credit card account. The only thing that held me back was the flash of pride in Bellamy’s eyes as he explained how he single-handedly kept his family afloat all these years.

But that doesn’t mean I’m going to sit back and do nothing. I just need to find the right thing—something that Bellamy won’t balk at accepting.

“How was the photo shoot?”

I realize a beat too slowly that the question was directed toward me. Three pairs of eyes stare at me, waiting for an answer.

“It was fine.” My voice is pretty steady, but something about how I sound or how I look tips Sebastian off.

He cocks his head and narrows his eyes. “Just fine?”

“Yeah, fine.” Except my voice is tighter this time and I shift in my seat before I can stop myself.

Sebastian straightens and zeros in on me with a stern look. I’m not getting out of this interrogation unscathed.

“What happened?”

Rhys and Hayden look between me and Sebastian, but they’re not coming to my rescue.

“Nothing.” I try to deny it one more time, setting my face into my best “leave me alone” pout.

But Sebastian knows me too well to be intimidated. He doesn’t even bother asking again, merely folds his hands on the table and waits. The silence drags on, growing heavier by the second. I’m usually pretty good at these kinds of staring contests, and Sebastian tends to cave before I do, but all the circling thoughts about Bellamy have thrown me off my game today.

“Fine, Jesus, something happened.” A shit ton of stuff happened, way more than I’m willing to share at the moment. I barely understand it myself and if I tell the guys, they’ll never stop with the questions.

“There was someone else at the photo shoot.”

Rhys leans forward, curiosity lighting up his eyes. “Ooo, who was it? It wasn’t Bellamy Blais, was it? Oh my god, that would be too funny.”

Goddamn it.

Rhys gasps and squeals when he sees my expression darken. “Oh my
