Was he happy? What a loaded question Belle just asked. All Mitch could do was be honest. That was fair to her. “Somewhat.”

He glanced at his watch and realized time was passing and they had work to do before the photo shoot tomorrow. Perfect opportunity to change the subject. The day was too perfect to face deeper questions about his answer.

“Time to go. I don’t know if any of what I said answered your question about Worth’s offer. But honestly, Belle, nobody can tell you what fork you should take.”

“That was a bad segue. But you’re right.”

“I thought it was pretty darn good myself.” And with that, he held out a hand to her. They followed their footprints in the deep snow back to Bluebell Road, past the fork, and down to the cabin and his SUV.

The cold tempered by the intense high-altitude sunshine and the beauty of the day continued to brighten his mood. It’s not due simply to Colorado. Give Belle the credit as well. Despite the fact that you may still be uptight over the fact she’s from a privileged family, she brings out something better in you.

Mitch spent the next few hours in his office practically knee to knee with Belle. Getting the last image ideas nailed and the text to reinforce what the viewer saw. And how important support of Goal 100% was to women.

They were making the last bits of the website solid before the shoot tomorrow, so all he had to do was insert the images and maybe make a bit of them into short videos.

However, sitting in this close proximity, watching Belle’s lashes sweep her cheek when she blinked, the way she cupped her chin in her palm when she was thinking, the way he felt her sneak peeks at him…it all made it harder—heck, nearly impossible—to concentrate.

Belle would get up and refill their coffee cups from his fancy Swiss coffeemaker, and later in the afternoon, she brought in cheese and crackers on a plate.

“Hey, this is all I could find in the fridge. We’ll definitely need to finally get to the market. I’m making you dinner,” she said and then yawned hugely. “Sorry. It was a late, late night.”

Mitch grinned. “Listen, why don’t you stretch out on one of the couches? There’s an afghan in the chest next to the TV. Take a nap. I only have about an hour of code work left, then we can head to the store.”

She didn’t need any coaxing as she practically jumped from the chair and waved him goodbye with the back of her hand.

Mitch munched a few of the crackers as he added another layer of protection to Belle’s site. Brice and Jen had developed a couple of protocols for him to add to his clients’ sites to help deter hackers. Even so, he advised all his clients to invest in some strong security to scan for threats.

As another layer of support, something he didn’t do for his usual clients, he bought a two-year subscription for Belle’s site to one of Brice’s midrange security packages.
