When Finn rolled over in the morning, the sun was well past morning. It was early afternoon, he thought sleepily. Then the night before rushed over him and he groaned and threw the covers over his head.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Could he be any more obvious? So much so, Scotty was saying that? And what does it mean that Scotty doesnât even know about Joq and George? Finn got that they wanted to keep it private, but that private?
Then he remembered himself saying, âCourse Iâd be out if I was with George.â
He grabbed his pillow, shoved it on top of his head and wondered if there was a way to surgically remove the part of the memory for specific events.
He lay still and breathed, tried to reason it outâit was only Scotty⦠Whoâd probably tell George!
Finn threw everything off and got out of bed.
He found his phone on the counter. He had a few texts from George at the top. He bit his bottom lip, rubbed his left calf with his big right toe, tried to breathe calmly.
Itâs not like George would text him: Finn, you are being completely inappropriate!
Or: Finn, I told you that in confidence, if you make it so obvious youâve got the hots for me people might have thoughts about me too. Therefore, I am ending this friendship.
Okay, Finn, settle down, he told himselfâsince when would George text him so formally, like a lawyer?
He set his phone aside, got a bottle of water, chugged the whole thing, wiped his mouth, made a little growl sound to pump himself up and opened the goddamn text messages.
Scotty said he got u a car? U get home alright?
The first one said, time stamped 5:13am.
Im guess u sleeping, I hope? Text me when u get up so I know u okay.
That one was seven minutes later.
Sometimes I canât stop thinking about kissing you.
Finn dropped the phone. Like, he literally dropped the phone and made a series of acrobatic catches to try and save it before it crashed to the floor. He scooped it up, breathless, and read it again to make sure his brain wasnât making it say something he so desperately wanted.
Sometimes I canât stop thinking about kissing you was still waiting for him. Time stamped 5:37am.
It was 1:17pm now. Finn held his phone in his hand, stared at the words on his phone and knew he had to answer. The obvious reply was, Me too. Fuck, me too times a million. But, Finn couldnât stop thinking about kissing George as a boyfriend, as an exclusive boyfriend, whereas George mustâve been into him for a casual thing.
He rubbed his nose, scratched his leg, bounced on the spot for a minute. He needed to reply. He needed to get his reply just right. And he had to think seriously hereâif George was down to fuck, and if that was all Finn was going to get, was he really going to turn that down? Was he that stupid?
He typed quickly, hit send, tossed his phone on the counter and ran into his shower, his heart pounding.
