Chapter 5

CILLIAN

Lorenzo clears his throat.

Meisie freezes on top of me. Lorenzo knows exactly what he’s just walked into, but Meisie doesn’t need to know that.

“Lorenzo! How ye doin’, mate?” I cuddle her into my neck. “Past this little one’s bedtime.”

How I manage to say that with a straight face I don’t know. How I manage to say that while I know for a fact that Meisie’s coming all over my cock...only Satan himself knows.

Lorenzo chuckles. “Si. Aye. You want me to box hers up?”

“Nah. You’re good. I’ll wake her.”

Lorenzo puts the two bowls of pasta down on the table and leaves us, picking up a discarded candle and shoving it into his pocket.

I start chuckling. Meisie starts giggling, her pussy clenching around my cock and making me almost buckle.

“Stop that!” I nip her neck.

She laughs even harder, and leans back to look at me. “So stop means something now? Interesting.”

“Get over there and eat your pasta,” I scold her, lifting her up and putting her down on the floor. She uses the table for support while she scoots around and I fix myself, shoving her knickers in my pocket.

We both eat in silence for a wee while until she clears her throat. “You were right.”

I shrug. “Usually am.”

She narrows her eyes at me from across the table and takes another bite. “I meant about the food. Best spaghetti I’ve ever had.”

I smile at her. “And you were ready to go home. You’d have missed it if it for the wee man down here knocking some sense into you.”

She rolls her eyes at that and then looks back down at her bowl. There’s silence but it’s not an awkward one. In fact, it’s probably the easiest silence we’ve ever had.

“Have you...” Meisie glances up at me and puts down her fork. “Have you spoken to my mom?”

I lean back in my chair and put my fork down.

I’m not into lies. I know I’ve kept a lot from her, but if I deny the conversation I had with Helen then that’s an outright lie. And like I said, I’m the only person she has now. She deserves one person in her life who’s genuine.

But what if the truth makes her hate me?

Makes her want to go back to her mum?

I had an offer, a seriously good fucking offer, and I told Helen to ram it up her arse.

What if Meisie wants me to take that offer?

I would have to tell her no. I’m not taking the offer. And I’m not ready to tell her why I’m refusing the offer—because I haven’t even got that reason straight in my head yet. And without any logical reason, I’d go back to being nothing but a cunt who’s keeping her against her will. I don’t even know if she still sees me like that, but something is different between us.

I can’t let her go... but somewhere along the line, the reason for that changed.

It never used to be about Meisie, she was just a means to an end.
