Chapter Eleven
Allie
Driving to White Fox Lodge on the cleared mountain road under a bright blue sky was a thousand times easier than trying to navigate at night in the middle of a snowstorm. It was a good thing, too, because Allie was having trouble keeping her mind on the journey.
She hadnât wanted to leave Ben. Spending the remainder of the week in his cozy cabin, isolated from the world, was awfully tempting. As was the thought of spending more nights in his bed.
For as kind and gentle as the man was out of the bedroom, he was a beast within itâin the best possible way. Heâd been relentless in giving her pleasure, almost feral in taking his own.
But her leaving was for the best. She was starting to fall for him, which seemed ridiculous after only two days. They barely knew each other. How could she feel like she was leaving part of herself behind?
She didnât understand it. What she did know was, if she had stayed, it would have been even harder to leave.
Regardless, Eric Craven was not a man she could easily say no to. If she could prove her skillsâand Allie had no doubt she couldâa permanent position in the cybersecurity division of EC Holdings would be hers for the taking.
No more freelancing, bouncing from job to job like some kind of cyber mercenary. No more shitty apartments and low-level cover positions. A steady, hefty paycheck. Plenty of benefits and bonuses. Access to private executive suites at any of his two dozen resorts around the world.
Sure, holing up in a secluded cabin with Ben, away from the rest of the world, sounded good now, but how long could it last? What would she do? Knit by the fire while Ben carved? More importantly, what would happen if and when Ben ever found out the truth about her and her less than shiny past? Would he look at her differently? Or would he want to use her, like everyone else?
No, Benâs not like that. He wouldnât do that.
She pushed back the ache that had taken up residence in her chest as she drove through the gates of the exclusive resort. It was every bit as beautiful as it appeared in the brochures, but then again, sheâd known it would be. Eric Craven was known for catering to his wealthy guestsâ every whim and desire. It was one of the reasons he was such a successful businessman.
One of the reasons. Another was his ruthlessness when it came to his competition. He didnât allow anything to stand in his way when he wanted something, and apparently, he wanted her.
Well, she was the best.
His earlier message instructed her to go directly to his private suite, so after inquiring at the main building where that was, she did. She was met by a petite, efficient-looking blonde, who escorted Allie to a private elevator and used a key to take them to the penthouse suite.
Eric Craven himself was smaller than sheâd expected. He was no more than a few inches taller than her, which put him around five-nine or so.
