June

Robb got out of his car and paused to smell the salt air and listen to the waves rolling in on the beach before going into his house. As a child he loved coming to Azimuth Point for the summer. He would tumble out of the car and race across the long green lawn to the beach, yelling with delight, his governess in hot pursuit. She always scooped him up halfway down the lawn and took him, yowling with dismay, back to the house to change into play clothes and shoes. When he got older he pleaded with the strict Miss Ebehauer to let him travel to Azimuth Point already in play clothes, so he could run around the yard and down to the ocean as soon as he arrived. The answer was always no, that was not done; he must leave town dressed correctly, and change after they arrived in the country. He smiled about all those ‘not done’ things the governesses had forced upon him as a child. He made sure, when Miranda was little, that they both ran right to the ocean as soon as they got out of the car. In his adolescent years coming to Azimuth Point meant release from the confinement of boarding school and, most of all, seeing Diana again.

With a sigh, thinking of Diana, he shook his head and gripped the suitcases tightly as he continued across the driveway and up the wide veranda steps. Soon he was going to have to talk with Helene.
