Axel got out of the shower and pulled on a pair of sweatpants, opting not to just wear his boxers to bed with her. Melody was unpacking her stuff into one of the two dressers in the room and turned, looking his body over. He loved the way she took him in from head to toe. He could see that she wanted him and not have her just giving him the words meant more to him somehow.
âHey,â he breathed. âReady for some sleep?â
âI donât know,â she whispered. âYou might need some more clothes if Iâm going to be able to sleep next to you. I had no idea that you worked out,â she said.
âYouâre saying that your intel on me didnât have me going out to the local gym every day?â he asked.
âNo,â she breathed, her eyes flying to his mid-section. âBut judging from your abs, you work out every single day.â He ran his hands over his abs, and she let her eyes follow their movement.
âItâs just something that I picked up doing while in the Army. I had to stay in top shape and well, exercising helps me to blow off steam, so thatâs a plus,â he said. Melody tossed the last of her things into the top drawer and closed it, walking across the small room to the bed.
âWell, you make me feel like a slug,â she grumbled.
âOh, come on,â he said. âYou work out, Melody,â he said.
âI do when I have time. But with the cutbacks down at the department and having to take on more hours, I just canât seem to find the time to go to the gym. Where do you go?â she asked.
âI have a home gym in my basement. Itâs why your intel didnât have me going to the gym every day,â he said, flashing her his grin. The less time he spent out in public, the less likely it was that heâd be spotted when on a case. He liked his privacy and the anonymity that having a home gym gave him. âYouâre welcome to become my first member,â he teased.
âAre the membership fees steep?â she asked.
âIâm sure that we can work something out,â he joked, bobbing his eyebrows at her. Melodyâs giggle filled the room and it sounded magical. Why was he so entranced by this woman? Just days ago, she was trying to toss his ass into prison and throw away the key. Now, she was sliding into bed with him, and he wanted her more than he did his next breath.
He watched as she got into the bed and wondered if she was always going to wear so many clothes to bed with him. Since their lunch, she had slipped on a sweatshirt and looked about ready to head out for the day, not hop into bed with him for a nap.
âYouâre wearing an awful lot of clothing,â he mumbled.
âIâm cold,â she lied, raising her chin as if daring him to call her a liar.
âSure, honey,â he said. âWell, Iâm burning up.
