With Christmas approaching, I’d been busier than usual. I did a lot of shopping online, but during the holidays I liked to venture out to pick out some gifts and decorations personally. Solange liked to shop too, so we spent a lot of time at the shops and boutiques in town, preparing for the holidays. I’d bought a few dozen rolls of wrapping paper and bows today, and I sat down when we got home to begin the wrapping process. Christmas was still more than a week away, but I was going to ship gifts to the kids in Limaj. Luke, Leni, Joss, Jessie, and Levi would get gifts from me, even if I couldn’t be there to watch them open them.

I’d also shopped for Megan and Madison, Solange and Axel, and my various grandparents, but those didn’t need to be wrapped tonight. I would take care of these specific gifts now, have someone drop them off to my father, and he would ship out the gifts from everyone in the family here in Vegas to Limaj.

I still hadn’t figured out what to get Anton since he was one of those people—like most of my family—who had the money to buy whatever he wanted. I’d been trying to think of something romantic and personal but had come up short so far. A trip was difficult to plan because of hockey. Even date nights could be tricky because Coach Wylde often had dinner meetings or other events Anton had to attend.

“Hey.” Anton came in just as I’d finished wrapping the last gift, and he smiled as he sank down onto the floor next to me. “Which one is mine?”

“Ha.” She grinned. “These are for the kids in Limaj.”

“That train set you got for Levi ought to take up half the palace,” he said.

“It’s got lights and sound and music. My mother will undoubtedly kill me.”

He grinned. “Just remember when we have kids, payback will be a bitch.”

For a moment, I froze, thinking back to a time when we’d talked about having kids all the time. Instead of answering, I got up and gathered up the packages, carrying a few of them to the kitchen counter. Anton followed me with the rest, placing them next to the ones I’d already put down. I’d bought two for each kid, which was probably going overboard, but I wanted them to think of me since I wouldn’t be there.

“Listen, I know you’re a little bummed about Christmas,” he said, resting his chin on my shoulder. “But I wanted to ask you something.”

“Okay.” I turned to him.

“I talked to Coach Wylde, and he gave me permission to fly right to Fort Lauderdale on the twenty-third after our game in Nashville. We could spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my dad and Tessa and the kids. If you want to. I know you have your dad here, but I’d really like to see my dad. And the kids all adore you.”

I adored Anton’s siblings as well. The idea of spending Christmas with the Petrovs sounded wonderful, and I smiled, gazing up at him.
