CHAPTER 6
GETTING THE SCRUB bottoms on were harder than heâd figured. Thankfully they were soft and loose, and that helped, but the bathroom wasnât exactly spacious. He sat on the edge of the wide square Jacuzzi tub, which took up the majority of the room, and sort of bent sideways at the waist until he could hook the pants around his foot on his injured leg. After heâd gotten them pulled halfway up, he stuck his other foot in. Hopping around on one leg, which jarred his aching head and made his ribs and shoulder hurt worse, he managed to get the pants to his waist.
That was all sheâd brought him. No shirt. Not that he should care. Annie had seen him without a shirt before, but now that sheâd seen him without his pants too⦠It just seemed different. More intimate.
He opened the door and Annie, whoâd been leaning on it, nearly fell inside. Guy managed to hold on to his crutch with one hand and catch her with the other. Given the fact that she was so slight, it wasnât difficult.
She smiled up him and her hot little hands flattened on his pecs. He noticed right off that her nipples were hard.
Now his were, too.
Forcing his gaze to her face, he gave her a stern look then stepped around her. âWhere are the rest of my clothes?â
Annie hustled along behind him as if waiting to catch him in case he fell. Ha! Heâd flatten her if he did. He was way taller and over a hundred pounds heavier.
âWhy do you want more clothes?â she asked.
âBecause weâre leaving.â
âLeave! But we canât.â
âWe most certainly can.â
âNo.â
âYes.â Why the hell was she being so difficult? She probably had no idea what torture it was to be this close to her, but determined not to touch her.
âIâve hid the keys to my car.â
Little witch. He wouldnât look at her. âI have no idea why youâre doing thisâ¦.â
âIâm trying to force you to think about a few things.â
âI can think better at home.â
âYouâre not going home.â
Heâd almost reached the bedroom. âYou donât want to drive me, fine. Iâll call a cab.â
âWe donât have a phone.â
He glared at her over his shoulder. âTry again, Annie. Thereâs no way Daniel sent you up here without a phone. I know him too well for that.â
She looked deflated. âIf you go home, Melissa will just convince you to marry her.â
He took another awkward step toward the bedroom. âIs that what this is all about?â
âNo.â A moment of silence, and then, âYou promised to tutor me.â
Guy halted in mid hobbling step. Very slowly, he pivoted on his one good leg to face her. âI did what?â
Annie crossed her arms under her breasts. It was blatantly obvious she wasnât wearing a bra, which led his beleaguered brain to wonder if sheâd foregone her panties, too.
He concentrated hard on keeping his gaze on her face, trying to sound unaffected. Failing, he asked, âHave you forgotten your underwear again?â
She shrugged. âLace packed for me, but she didnât include any underthings.
