Angels Nightmare Adventure: Luis’s Story

This is in memory of a good friend of mines, Joe. May you rest in peace.

Chapter 1

While Angel is about to prepare for his surgery for his overbite, across town, Luis an officer for the NYPD is about to start his first day. He is 25 and he has quite the rap sheet of misdoings including dropping out of school. He knows the streets in and out as he was a drug dealer one point in his life, but decided to change when his daughter was born.

He attended Brooklyn College graduated and decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. Angel and Luis don’t know each other, but did bump into each other at one point during one of Angel’s appointments at Woodhull hospital. However the meeting wasn’t much, only hi and bye and they went their separate ways. Angel was around 16 and Luis was around 24 during that bump in. Now at the age of 25 he is officially in the NYPD ready to begin his first day as an officer.

It’s a normal summer day in July, the same day as Angel’s scheduled operation. Luis receives his first assignment. His first assignment comes at 9 in the morning and it is to organize the file cabinet in the office in the sergeant’s office. Luis is disappointed. He expected some action to start off.

“Damn I was so pumped up to catch some criminals and they got me organizing files. Shit must be a really slow day for crime or people are beginning to act civilized.”

He’s kind of right the crime rate is rather low, in fact this year crime is 75% lower than last year. It is also on pace to be the year of the least recorded crimes in all of NYC history. He doesn’t mind that NYC was becoming a peaceful place to live in. At least compared to when he was growing up in Bushwick, Brooklyn where crime was at an all time high. However, he does become annoyed that he might end up doing desk duty not only today, but for the foreseeable future.

The police pretty much have the city under control, you would have one murder in 3 weeks time and the suspect would always get caught. Drug dealing has also become almost non-existent. Luis can’t help, but to feel a bit suspicious that all of a sudden that crime is dropping like a bullet.

He turns the television on and begins to watch the news for a little while during his break. The newscast begins to talk about a company called the “Hybrid Corporation” working in collaboration with many hospitals in the NYC area to release a new substance. This substance is intended for patients with cancer and promises to be the substance that would stop cancer. Hybrid has had a questionable past before, but no actual proof could be obtained that they were doing any illegal activity. He doesn’t pay too much attention to the newscast as he is enjoying a Big Mac from McDonalds along with fries and a soda.
