~ Chapter Eighteen ~

The blood-high only lasts a few more minutes and I feel normal again. Zander comes from the kitchen with another bottle of water and some crackers. He hands me both then joins me on the couch.

“Do you need aspirin or something?”

I shake my head and tell him no.

“You ok?”

“I feel like I have a hangover already. I think I’ll space out my highs next time,” I say, laughing.

“I’d say that’s a good idea. I can’t believe you took his blood.”

“Well, you never told me not too.”

“I told you humans can feel this way with blood as well.”

“I guess I forgot. We should have talked about it more.”

“I suppose you’re right, but I never thought you would even consider taking another vampires blood.”

I guess he’s right. It’s not every day that a vampire offers someone their blood.

“You know this means he can track you?”

“Even with that small of an amount?”

“It can be a drop―it ties into you. Fucking Billy…and then you were kissing him.” Zander groans and leans back on the couch.

“It’s not like I knew what I was doing. If I were sober, I would have known better. He was different tonight. We had a long talk.”

“What about?” He turns to me.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you’re Billy’s maker and his ex-lover?” I stress the last part.

“He told you all that? I knew I should have sent Red.”

“Avoiding the question?”

“Billy doesn’t mean anything to me except in a father-son way.”

“That’s even more disturbing considering the stuff you used to do to him.”

“I’m talking about our vampire relationship. We haven’t been together at all since I turned him. What do you mean the stuff I used to do to him? What did he tell you?”

“He told me the reason you had to turn him,” I say and Zander shakes his head slowly. “That’s why you tied my hands, wasn’t it?”

“Why did he tell you all this?”

“Why didn’t you?” I shot back.

“I guess I didn’t think it was important.”

“If it’s part of you and your history then it’s important to me. Now, answer the question…is that the reason you tied my hands?”

“You were the first I’ve done that with since―yes, that was reason.”

“Because it worked so well for you last time?” I say mockingly. “You could have killed me, Zander.”

“No, that’s not true. I knew what I did wrong with Billy―what he did wrong. I was careful―very meticulous. I swear.” He takes my hands. “I would never put you in jeopardy, especially for my own selfish desires.”

“I know, but it still made me feel cheap.” I grip his hand.

“Why? Because of Billy…baby, he’s nothing.”

“He was something then.”

“Even then he was nothing. I know that sounds bad, but I was waiting for you to return. I had no interest in finding love. It just happened to be when I was with Billy that I found you again.”

“Yeah, he told me. Wish you would have.” I sigh.

“I’m sorry―I should have. I promise I’ll work on being more open.” He’s sincere and that’s the only reason I’m ok with his answer.
