Chapter 17

My boyfriend is an immortal sorcerer. She walked to the library somewhat taller, loving to carry such a secret. How quickly she’d adapted to her new reality.

It had been only a week since Gabriel revealed his nature to her. Everything since then had been oddly normal. They were like any other couple in love. The same, really, except for their lovemaking. She’d insisted he use his spells on her again and had reveled in the experience of such blinding pleasure, such delicious torture.

Her steps became lighter as she remembered the little loving words Gabriel had whispered to her in the midst of passion. How thoroughly he’d possessed her just this morning. She’d felt vulnerable as he used magic with her, yet so incredibly safe.

But she was not ready to give her old self away. So she’d dropped Gabriel at a local coffee shop with his brand-new laptop before heading to the library for her weekly ritual.

It would take him a couple of hours to load up new software. He’d warned her that she should leave him alone as he’d probably curse through the whole process. It seemed he couldn’t find a spell to speed things up.

Lily unloaded her book tote in the book-drop slot by the door, then stepped inside the historic building. The entrance had been decorated for Halloween. Cutouts of cheery ghosts and mischievous witches on broomsticks adorned the walls on the way to the children’s section.

Smiling at the festive sight, Lily walked straight to the counter and handed her card to the librarian. “I have a book on hold.”

The girl swiped Lily’s card in the scanner, then checked the computer. “Yes. It’s here. I’ll be right back.” She disappeared into a small room behind the counter.

The place was busy this afternoon. A few people worked on the computers in the middle of the main room. A tiny lady talked to the middle-aged librarian at the reference desk, and a mother searched through DVDs while trying to keep her toddler quiet.

Lily’s gaze stopped on a tall man perusing the new-books section beside the check-out counter. She couldn’t see his face but noticed his shaved head and confident posture. He wore elegant dark wool pants and charcoal gray sweater over a pristine white shirt. Lily couldn’t take her eyes off of him.

The call of the librarian jolted her out of her daze. “There you are.”

Lily turned away from the man and waited for her book as the librarian scanned it and put it on the counter. She’d finally be able to read this. It had stayed on the best-seller lists for weeks.

“What a wonderful book you chose.” The rich male voice addressing her was accompanied by a strange overwhelming scent, fragrant herbs with a hint of decay.

A masculine hand rested on her book, elegant fingers drumming on the hard cover. Lily glanced up to the man towering over to her.

No, it couldn’t be. Her pulse quickened. Theuron. Theuron Keir.

“You will love it.” His voice was like a caress all over her.
