I knew that having Waylon gone would be difficult. Shit, itâd been a challenge when he was with the council in the same town as I was, so of course it would be worse with him two hours away. More than once I entertained the idea of commuting from his place. Whatâs adding four hours a day to your work day if you can get sweet kisses when you come home and before you leave the next day?
Sadly it wasnât the adding the four hours that was the problem, it was what had to be taken away from my day, and that would be sleep. I wouldnât be able to function after a few days and that wasnât good for anyone. Seeing each other on weekends it would have to be, even if the weekends were the worst time for me to be away. Kim was great, but leaving her with all of the responsibilities every weekend would be unfair at best. And with some of our bigger events we had begun catering, impossible even.
I just had to stick it out until we figured out a better plan. I knew one would emerge. Fate wouldnât fling us together if we werenât possible. It was just a matter of us fitting the pieces together and we would. I was sure of it. Sure and impatient.
âPhiney, Daddyâs gotta go to work,â I grumbled, but really, work was good for me. It kept my mind off my longing.
I couldnât even escape into my fur, because the second I gave my beast any leeway, he tried to get to our mate. Nevermind the fact that he was two hours away by car and snow leopards would freak most humans the eff out. He had a mission and was willing to risk all of that. Consequently, I couldnât risk letting him out at all, not even at my place. Last time I did he tried to claw the door open, and I pushed him back just in time to save my security deposit.
âIâll be back soon.â I grabbed my keys and went on my way.
It was still dark out and I opted to take my car. Iâd be mad at myself later when the traffic was bad, but this early in the morning there was no one on the roads and I could get there quickly.
The order was coming in this morning and we had a school coming in to pick up a donation for their annual Teacherâs Appreciation Breakfast. So there was a ton to do before the sun even began to rise.
I parked in the back next to the van and unlocked the door, the first one here. Since it was a busy day, we had a few baristas and cashiers coming in as well as Kim. It was going to be that kind of day.
Flicking the lights on, I turned on the ovens and immediately started to pull all the ingredients for the muffins I needed to bake. Thankfully, the school just wanted muffins and coffee.
