Chapter 7âEdgar
EDGAR HAD NEVER FELT so secure in his life. Being in Amarâs arms was a special kind of bliss heâd never dreamed existed. He felt cherished, which was a completely new concept to him.
In Amar, Edgar had a lover who knew his deep, dark secret and who didnât think it was strange. Amar didnât look at Edgar and see a freak. He saw Edgarâs kind and caring side, and he prized it. Edgar wanted to take this risk. This had to be what love felt like. His heart swelled with it. He trembled with happiness and the wonder of it all. Never in a million years had Edgar dreamed a man like this could actually have feelings for him.
Brielle would be happy for him.
âSo, you donât know anything about your abilities?â
One thing Edgar envied about Amar was his single-minded determination. He knew the first time he saw Amar that he was the kind of man who got things done. That laser focus on a topic also annoyed Edgar. There were a lot of things he didnât want to talk about, and shifting was one of themâbut Amar wouldnât let the topic alone.
Edgar peeled himself from the cocoon of Amarâs embrace and picked up his clothes. âWhatâs to know? I turn into a knee-high dog when Iâm really upset or freaked out. Thatâs not really a superpower.â
He went into the washroom and cleaned up, and then he put his clothes on. When he emerged, he found that Amar had used the second restroom on the plane. Flying on a private jet was really cool for a lot of reasons.
Wearing a suit and looking all kinds of handsome, Amar lounged on a bench seat near where theyâd had sex. He motioned to the seat across from him, indicating where Edgar should sit.
Like a good dog, he sat. The part of him that wanted to be valued seethed at being treated in such a manner. âLook, I might turn into a dog, but I donât like to be ordered around like one. Iâm a person, Amar.â He threw the name into his declaration to make sure Amar was there as his lover, not his boss.
âIâd apologize, but Iâm not sorry. I think youâve figured out by now Iâm an alpha. Itâs in my nature to take the lead. That means I tend to give orders instead of make requests.â
That description was in line with Mr. Grangerâs behavior in general. Edgar pulled his feet into the seat and folded his legs under him. âIâll give you that.â
âAnd youâre an omega, a submissive shifter. Itâs one of the reasons we work so well together, Edgar. I need you to be you, and you need me to be me.â Amar handed a bottle of water across the space between them. âDonât fight your true nature. You will lose the battle and be miserable in the process. Embrace it, and you will find happiness.â
Edgar liked to please people, but that path always led to disillusionment and disappointment.
