CHAPTER FIFTEEN
âMorning, Darwin.â Mat was nearly prancing as she made her way through the store the next morning, her mood better than it had been in weeks.
âUh⦠morning.â Her employee wore a shocked expression, like he hadnât expected his boss to notice his existence, much less to comment on it. The young man sported patches of stubble that made him look like one of those magnetic Wooly Willy toys that had half-heartedly been shaken for a redo.
Matâs breath caught as she spotted Camdyn heading in her direction, and she couldnât resist raking her gaze up and down the womanâs curvy figure. Camdyn was wearing a demure blouse that somehow still managed to hug her full breasts and a slim-fitting skirt that clung to her shapely hips.
âGood morning, Ms. Stone.â A sudden warmth pooled between her legs as Mat recalled all that had passed between them the night before. âI trust youâre doing well this fine morning?â
Camdyn bit down on her lip, but she nodded confidently, finally saying, âVery well. And you, Ms. Kincaide?â
Mat shrugged but couldnât wipe the grin off her face. âI certainly canât complain.â
But by the time she had climbed the flights of stairs to her office and reached her desk, the enormity of what she and Camdyn had done weighed on her like a lead cloak. Her heart thudded at the memory of Camdynâs touch, the softness of her lips, the way her body had arched beneath Matâs in pleasure.
But she was Mat Kincaide, future CEO of her familyâs business. She couldnât afford to let desires cloud her judgment. Sheâd broken one of her cardinal rules by sleeping with an employee.
Mat needed to set some things straight with the younger woman as soon as possible. The previous night had been a one-off. Nothing more. Mat had been in a vulnerable spot and had been searching for the type of comfort sex could provide. That was all there was to it.
But at the same time, she didnât regret it, and she didnât want Camdyn to either. There should never be shame when it came to sex.
There was, however, danger. What if they were found out? Would that add more fuel to her saboteurâs fire?
Mat needed to rein things in.
She called downstairs, relieved when Camdyn answered the phone instead of having to ask to speak to her.
âYou rang?â Camdyn said, making Mat laugh. She had to admit, she found Camdyn adorkable.
âI did. I was hoping to arrange a little after-work meeting about the thing we didnât discuss last night.â
âI see. When?â Camdyn sounded unusually calm. Was that what a single night of reckless fucking did for the womanâs poise? If so, they should do it more often.
Except, no! They should not! Which was the whole point of this call.
Mat frowned at the top of her desk, wondering if sheâd already taken a wrong turn with this. She quite possibly turned nothing into something by her need to explain how things should be. Camdyn would never want anything serious from Mat.
