Who knew half the town was in therapy? Ray was shocked at the list from Dr. Curry’s attorney, Jodi Fallston, without session notes. It read like a suspect list if he ever saw one. There were some surprises, too. Brittany Farmer’s therapy didn’t seem to do her any good given the recent sabotage of his wedding. Megan Harris, who’d given Brittany information on Autumn’s wedding gown, had also sought help from Dr. Angela Curry. He knew about Harry Halifax and William Moore.

And now, a call from Autumn about Barry Cromwell, on Dr. Curry’s client list and his mother concerned about his last appointment with her.

Had Dr. Curry undermined the recovery of her clients? After all, she threatened Harry Halifax about their affair.

He thanked his lucky stars that Autumn’s treatment by a reputable psychologist healed her rather than someone like Curry, whose clients took actions that made their lives worse.

Faith Halifax wasn’t on the list, but her connection to Dr. Curry through her husband kept her top-of-mind as a murder suspect. He was on his way to see her when he got the call from Autumn about Barry Cromwell. He dialed Chief Stanley to get a plain-clothes officer to go with him. It was still their case, but Ray had permission to investigate, since they were shorthanded, and he included them as much as possible.

The one thing he hadn’t shared with the chief related to William Moore’s lack of follow-up. Ray wanted to see where that led.

Officer Jim Osgood showed up wearing street clothes that showed his muscular physique. At over six feet tall, he was intimidating without saying a word. Ray had worked with him on a case a few years back and found him diligent and trustworthy.

And Ace liked him. Jim held out his hand to Ace and petted him.

“How are you, buddy?”

Ace let out one sharp bark, making Jim smile.

Ray explained the situation and Barry’s mental health status to Jim, to prepare him for a potential physical altercation.

Ray knocked on Judge Cromwell’s door. Ace was in a guarding position next to him. Jim stood slightly behind them and to the side.

“I’ll go around back,” he said.

Ray nodded and knocked again. The sound of feet running down the hallway echoed inside the house and through the front door.

“Barry Cromwell?” Ray shouted through the door.

No answer.

Ray went around back to find Jim Osgood restraining Barry by the scruff of his collar. Barry fought against him, but Jim held tight. Ace barked and snarled, spraying saliva toward Barry.

“Hey, Barry,” said Ray. “We just want to ask you a few questions. Is that okay?”

“No! Get that dog away from me!” Barry screamed and continued to fight Jim.

Ray gave Ace a signal to quiet down and stand watch. Ace complied, but showed his teeth and growled deep in his throat. He acted more upset than Ray had ever seen before.

“We just want to talk to you about Dr. Curry,” Ray assured him.

“She’s gone!” Barry cried.

“That’s true. Can you tell us about that?” Ray said gently.
