She wouldn’t let it matter, however. Traf wouldn’t allow Ana to return the favor even if she offered, which she didn’t. It was an unspoken part of the Troublemakers culture they were creating for themselves that butches controlled the lovemaking. They took pride in never submitting to the touch of a femme. They told each other they received pleasure from the orgasms of their partners, and the satisfied femmes seemed more than happy to accept that explanation. It evolved wordlessly among them that the greater the sexual tension the butches attained, the better lovers they were.

After cuddling a bit, she helped Ana sit up and gather her clothing back around her. As she fastened the buttons she had undone earlier, she felt an unusual tenderness overwhelm her. Traf leaned down and kissed Ana’s shoulder.

They spent a languid eternity just lying in each other’s arms, kissing and talking in the small hours of the morning in the warm darkness of their clubhouse. Finally they left, making sure to lock up tight. Traf walked Ana home possessively, kissed her goodnight at her door, and arranged to meet the next night at the clubhouse, the first Saturday Troublemakers would be open. Then, because the busses stopped running at midnight, she spent the next hour walking back to Lajes. She thought about her beautiful Ana the whole way home, every step as light as her heart.

When Michaela’s blue bug pulled up to the clubhouse the next night, however, that mood was broken, shattered to pieces. Brutes had broken every window, and the door was kicked in, now hanging loosely from broken hinges. Teresa, Tina, Margarida, and Alex were already there, and the shocked foursome gingerly picked their way through the glass shards littering the ground to meet the newcomers.

“Inside?” asked Michaela, without any real hope.

“Some of the girls are in there now. They got that too. Everything’s busted all to hell. There’s nothing much left,” answered Teresa hopelessly. The tall butch kicked the ground. “They pissed and shit everywhere, and used it to write on the walls.” No one asked what had been written.

“They stole the wine and beer too,” remarked Tina sourly. “Not a bottle left anywhere, broken or otherwise. And they bashed every lightbulb in the place.”

Traf stared at Ana in horror as she realized the timing. The thought of what would have happened to them if they’d stayed longer made her stomach clench. Her hands followed suit.
