Sixteen.

Q pulled into his garage forty minutes after he’d left the hood. Every light was off inside of the house, so he guessed that the boys had been put to bed already. Lately, he’d been missing more and more of their days. He’d leave in the morning before they got up, but he’d only come back after they were asleep already.

Some days Q felt bad about his neglectful actions, but others he thought that it was perfectly normal. Most days that he stayed away from home for whatever reason, he would psych himself up to believe that he would spend time with his family the next day to make up for his absence. Those days never really came, unless they had a gathering or something to go to. He made time for those, but just staying inside was out of the question.

“Bianca,” he called walking into their bedroom. He was removing his clothing as he walked deeper into their bedroom. “Where you at?”

“I’m in here.” She called from the bathroom. She was kneeled over the toilet.

“You okay?” he asked as he kneeled down beside her and began rubbing her back.

“This has to be a girl. I didn’t go through any of this shit with Kale or Kingston.”

“You really think so?” Q lightened up at the thought of having a daughter.

“I bet.” Bianca said as she lifted herself from the floor.

“I hope it is. If so, then I promise we’re done.” Q assured her.

“I’m done anyway.” She located her toothpaste and toothbrush and began to brush her teeth.

“Don’t say that.” Q told her. He hated when she talked like that.

Bianca didn’t reply to him as she continued to brush her teeth. Rolling her eyes at him through the mirror, she bent down and spit. Rinsing her toothbrush and then her mouth out, she shut the water off.

“What do you expect me to say? We’ve already started this pregnancy off wrong. This here,” she pointed to her stomach, “was your big idea and you’re not even around to help out.”

“I’ve just been so busy lately.”

“Doing what Q?”

“In the streets.”

“Hmmmm. I bet.”

“I don’t want to fight tonight. The boys went down for you without a problem?”

“Look at that.” She blew out in frustration and walked back into their bedroom.

“Look at what?”

“The boys haven’t been home since yesterday and you didn’t even know it.”

“Where the hell are they?” he asked as if he was

“At my mother’s house. Since I can’t get any help around here she offered to give me a break.”

“How long will they be gone?” he questioned, completely ignoring the fact that she had just said that he wasn’t helping her out.

“For a few days. I have been feeling like shit, so I asked for a few days.”

“Damn. I thought that I was going to be able to spend some time with them tomorrow. I had placed some things on hold, guess I’ll go ahead and pick back up.” Q lied.

Although he did have some things lined up for the next day, he hadn’t put them on hold.
