CHAPTER 8

“What? You are not in bed?” Eve said when she entered the room and saw me in the same spot she left me.

“Is Mason still asleep?”

“Yes, he is,” she said as she looked me over again. “Oh my God…”

“What?”

“I just want you so bad,” she said stepped so close to me that our breasts were pressed against each other. “I want you in our bed.”

“But Mason…”

“He won’t wake up. I’ll make it quick.”

“OK,” I said and reached for my top.

“Oh no,” she said and took it from my hand. “I want to see you walk naked.”

“Eve…no…please, give me my top.”

“Are you shy?”

“No…I’m just…oh God,” I chuckled and covered my face.

“I don’t think you should be ashamed of your wife seeing you naked.”

“You are my wife for a particular purpose,” I reminded her.

“See, I never saw it that way,” she smiled and held my hand then led me to the stairs naked. “Go on up.

I looked at her and shook my head then started the embarrassing climb as Eve watched me from behind. I looked back and realized that she was behind a couple of steps and was looking at my ass as I moved. I hurried up to get it over with and was relieved and laughing when I finally made it into the bedroom.

“That was not OK,” I said as I fell onto the bed.

“It was way OK!” Eve said and jumped onto the bed beside me.

She took my hand and looked at my fingers then weaved hers through.

“From my fifty percent of your riches, I would like you to buy a ring for me to put on your fingers,” she smiled.

“We don’t need rings,” I smiled back. “Remember…”

“You married me for a different reason from the one I married you,” she said softly.

“Why did you marry me?”

“Because I was in love with you,” she said and the smile left my lips.

“You are confused,” I said and brushed her hair from her face. “I rescued you and you feel gratitude. Don’t mistake that for love.”

She didn’t get upset or tried to defend the love she thought she felt, and she seemed so confident in her belief that my words had no effect.

“How can I not love you? Even if you think I fell in love with you out of gratitude…does it matter?” she asked as she caressed my fingers. “Treating someone with compassion and kindness…putting their life and safety above your own has to be the foundation of love…how can it not be?”

“I guess you’re right.”

“And it goes both ways. How can you not love me?” she asked.

I now had the spotlight turned on my feelings and it forced me to take a moment to process them. Eve wiped my eyes, and it was then that I realized that the labeling of this intense feeling I had for her had forced the tears from my eyes. Of course, I loved her!

“It’s OK,” she whispered and took my lips in hers.

I held the back of her head and deepened our kiss because I was overcome with a rush of emotions and I just wanted all of her.
