Chapter Ten
Alex
âDaddy!â my boy squealed as he launched himself at me. I caught him and spun him around.
âBaby boy, I missed you.â
âMwah!â Orion made the sound as he kissed me. âDaddy, I want to buy a house and get a puppy and have a big garden,â he rattled off in one breath.
âAlex,â Lisette laughed as she came around the kitchen island. âCome, sit down and eat before that boy tugs you out the door to look at houses. Heâs been on the internet all day bookmarking ones he likes.â
âThank you, Lisette.â Having that woman around wouldnât be a hardship in the least. âDinner smells wonderful and thank you for the invite.â Richard and I had been swamped with the new building and dealing with the red tape the city permit department attempted to restrain us with that weâd forgotten lunch. âNow, little one, why donât you grab your laptop and fill Daddy in on your new housing obsession and show me what youâve got.â The boy was out of the room fast as lighting and returned just as quickly.
âHere, Daddy,â he patted the seat beside him, âsit by me.â As though Iâd sit anywhere else. âI think we need a house and a dog.â
âYes, youâve already voiced that but where did this come from?â Gods, how I loved this boyâs excitement.
âWe need more space.â His words surprised me, I turned my head and scanned the enormous penthouse. âNo, Daddy, like house space. Like no one around us and a yard for my puppy.â
âPuppy? Do you fully understand what duties come with having a dog? Vet visits,â I knew Orion didnât drive. Had no desire to since he technically had a driver on payroll, and I was actually more comfortable with the fact he didnât have a license. âPoop duty, potty training. If you donât keep them entertained, theyâll chew up your house and your toys.â His head bobbed up and down in understanding though I doubt he fully grasped the words.
âYes, Daddy, and Iâm home all day long and can train him or her.â
âPoop, Orion,â Lisette stepped in. âRemember the great hamster debacle of your youth?â
Oh, no, what did my boy do? âHe pooped on me. It was gross.â
âYou donât think a dog will get poop in places you donât want? Stuck in their fur and drug across you and the house?â Lisette added.
âMaybe. But I can wash them.â My boy was relentless when he wanted something.
âWell, maybe we focus on the house first and the dog later. What do you think, my boy?â Please, let him focus on one thing at a time.
âOkay, Daddy,â Orion agreed, Lisette winked at me and left the room. âI want a big, huge yard so I can grow stuff.â
âDo you know how to grow stuff?â
âNo, but I can learn.â
âI donât doubt that for a moment but just like with the dog, it will require patience and care. Can you be the big boy who manages those things?â
âYes, Daddy. Look,â he pointed at the screen as he opened the first house.
