Chapter 13

Tahlia stood outside the library. She could sense Jemima inside. At least she had kept her promise and was uninjured. She looked down her body. Unfortunately, no amount of cleaning could remove the stench of death still clinging to her. She didn’t want to expose their baby to the morbid side of life even before she was born. There were still a few hours left before dawn, maybe she could use them to unwind a little before she sought out Jemima again.

The training room was empty when she stepped inside. Leaving the room in darkness, she walked over to the wall where all their weapons were on display. She studied each of them carefully, before stepping back from the wall. None of them would assuage the tension she felt in her body. She shrugged out of her jacket and tossed it to the floor. Walking into the center of the large room, she took a deep breath before slowly easing her body into the soothing motions of Kalarippayattu. As her body stretched and rolled into the gentle movements, she felt her tension slowly begin to dissipate and a profound sense of peace seep into her being. After a long while, a soft smile formed on her lips, as she allowed memories to flood through her mind. The interior of the training room dissolved, as she was taken back to the year 600 AD. She saw herself as she sat cross-legged on a mat, surrounded by the quiet garden of Master Hidharama.
