Our relationship to the land matters. If we lose the health of these landscapes, then we are not going to succeed as a society. We need to make sure that these landscapes are more than protected. They need to be regenerated. They need to keep producing things, not only for the ecosystem itself, but for the quality of our lives.

A Resilient Land

JACK SOUTHWORTH

The award-winning rancher and facilitator for the High Desert Partnership asks the group to sit in a circle, bringing them together to talk. There is something remarkable about the assemblage, however: its diversity. It consists of ranchers and government resource specialists, landowners and interested citizens, timber industry representatives and conservationists, all coming together with the goal of working together. They will engage in a pioneering collaborative process, developed in Oregon, to find common ground and solutions to some of the most challenging issues surrounding Oregon’s public lands.
