Chapter 13
Sid cursed as he watched Thorn leave the table and head for the bathroom. Heâd been about to tell him something, but Sid had been too focused on making his political standpoint known to allow him to speak.
He made quick work of the dishes and listened as the shower came on. With a shake of his head, he went to the door to the bathroom. It opened when he tried the handle.
For a few seconds, he stood watching Thorn as he worked up a lather in his hair and then slid his soapy hands over his body. His gun was placed within reach on the sink right outside the shower stall, and his clothes neatly folded into a pile on the floor. Muscles moved under bronzed skin. Thorn had scars, and the reaper tattoo stretched from the back of his hand and up to his elbow.
Metal scraping against enamel forced Sid to drag his eyes away from Thornâs body.
âJesus, Sidney! I couldâve killed you.â Thorn lowered the gun heâd pulled in a blink of an eye and wiped foam out of his right eye.
Sid raised an eyebrow. âNow why would you go and do that, babe?â
The blush was instant, and Thorn half-turned as if to shield his body. âWhat are you doing here?â
âYou want some company?â Sid wiggled his eyebrows and laughed. The stall was tiny, and he remembered Shadeâs warning about the warm water, so showers together were out of the question, but he wasnât prepared for the frown he got in return.
âWhat are you doing? Stop flirting. You donât like me.â
âI never said I didnât like you.â Had he ever said that? âI donât like your profession, and I donât understand why you would want to walk away from your life simply to protect me, but I never said I didnât like you.â
Those brown eyes widened. âWhat do you want, Sidney? I donât do one-night stands, so if youâre here to get off, please leave.â
Interesting.
âIâm sorry for not letting you speak earlier. What was it you were about to tell me?â
Thorn stared, then he grimaced, and Sid could tell the warm water had run out. The air got colder to breathe in.
With a curse, Thorn tipped his head back to rinse out the suds. Sid watched the muscles play underneath his skin and swallowed hard as goosebumps formed all over Thorn. Why had he walked into the bathroom? Thorn deserved privacy, the conversation could wait, and yet he couldnât tear his eyes away.
When Thorn shivered, Sid turned to try to locate a towel. There was a small shelf with four ratty towels. They were almost see-through and the one he grabbed had a hole in one of the corners. He sighed. Thorn was not used to this kind of living.
The water cut off and Sid turned, holding up the towel for Thorn. When he took it, Sid grabbed another one from the stack and neared Thorn. He ignored the way his eyes widened and touched the fabric to his back, wiping away drops sliding over the goosebumps.
