CHAPTER ELEVEN

Ruby heard Olivia getting herself ready at the door. She was just dying to talk to the girls together.

“Ruby, you do realize what’s above, don’t you?”

Ruby spun around, startled to see Harry standing there with a mischievous smile and a sparkle in his eye. She laughed, forgetting about Olivia for the moment as she looked up at the mistletoe hanging in the doorway to the kitchen. “Harry, you hung one of these in every doorway of the house.”

He laughed, pulling her in for a kiss, and she forgot everything. She forgot that Olivia and Wendy were in the house. She forgot about how nervous she was about the next steps in her relationship with Harry. She forgot everything except how it felt to be in his arms and to have his lips on hers.

She forgot all of it until she heard Olivia gasp. Ruby quickly stepped back from Harry to see Olivia covering her eyes.

“Omigosh, I’m so sorry. I just forgot my keys in the kitchen,” she said, ducking between them.

“Nothing to be sorry about, dear,” Ruby choked out.

“Got them! You two carry on and pretend I was never here! Dawn is down for her nap, Grandma. Sorry, Harry,” she said, wincing as she raced between them to the door.

Ruby was mortified, but Harry looked completely unruffled as he took her hand and they walked to the door, where Olivia was frantically trying to gather her things. “Don’t worry about it, Olivia. I sort of set Ruby up with all these mistletoes everywhere.”

Olivia gasped, her gaze darting from one room to the other. Then she laughed, smiling at Harry. “Harry, you are the perfect man for my grandmother. I’m so happy for you both,” she said, the warmth in her smile making Ruby relax.

“Thank you, Olivia,” Harry said, squeezing Ruby’s hand as they watched her bolt out of the house.

Ruby sighed once her granddaughter was gone. “She’s looking better by the day. I wonder if romance is in the air,” she said, looking up at Harry.

His lips twitched and his eyes looked up. Ruby followed his gaze and burst out laughing as she spotted the mistletoe hanging there. She was still laughing when he lowered his head for another kiss.

“Just making up for lost time,” he said, smiling against her lips.
