Chapter 11

Waking up in Dax’s bed, with his arms wrapped around her, was maybe the best possible way to wake up. She felt warm, safe, and happy.

Something she hadn’t felt in a long time.

Not that she needed a man to make her feel any of those things. She was pretty sure she had been about to get there on her own with her new job. She’d known that her apartment was in a bad part of town and had already decided to move when her lease was up.

But then she’d gotten robbed and Dax had been there for her.

She missed having someone around who cared.

When she’d had lunch with Joy the day before, Joy promised she was going to do better. Apparently, while she loved going to bars to pick up guys, she rarely ended up sleeping with them. Especially in the last year. She’d told Avery that she’d done it to feel needed but after several hookups, she’d felt less needed and dirtier. So now she just met them, possibly made out a little, and then went their separate ways. Even those, she said, were few and far between. The night she tried to pick up Dax and his friends was actually the last time she’d done it.

They also talked about moving from their crappy apartment to a nicer one and when Avery brought up maybe moving to Cedarville, Joy didn’t hedge as much as she’d thought she would.

They decided to each go look at a few places and by next week make a decision.

Now she just had to talk Dax into letting her stay for the rest of the week.

Turning in his arms, she was shocked to find him wide-eyed and awake.

“How long have you been up?”

He pressed his rock-hard dick into her stomach. “I’ve been up since the day I met you. But if you want to know how long I’ve been awake, only a few seconds.”

She brushed a stray hair from his face. “How in the world you can even be thinking about sex again after last night is beyond me.” They’d made love two more times after dinner, each time better and more intense than the first.

“I blame it on you for being so sexy. I can’t keep my hands off of you.” He proved it by sliding his hand up her side and cupping her breast. Her breath hitched as he ran his thumb over her nipple.

She closed her eyes and relished in the feeling of his hand on her, taking her so high, so fast. “Dax,” she sighed his name and looked into his eyes, “don’t stop.”

“Wasn’t planning on it.” He leaned in and kissed her. Somehow the fact that it was morning and they both had bad breath didn’t even cross her mind. She guessed that happened when you were in love.

Her whole body stilled at the thought.

Holy fuck, she was in love with Dax.

Not sure how to deal with it, she practically pushed him off the bed and jumped off.

“Umm, is everything okay?” He was on his back looking up at her, concern covering his face.
