Gavin was already awake when his alarm went off. He’d tossed and turned the few hours he’d spent in bed, too amped up from his time with Sadie to sleep. The hug they’d shared at her door had turned him completely upside down. He should have known it would be useless to sleep when he soared on the high of holding her in his arms.

For those prolonged moments, she’d melted into him, with no hint of her usual reluctance. Her heart had beat with his, and the ecstasy of holding her close still buzzed under his skin.

If one hug could so completely undo him, he could only imagine what it would be like to kiss her … but he would likely never know. She was determined to keep him at arm’s length, and he couldn’t see any way around that … except by proving to her that he wasn’t the ladies’ man the media portrayed him as. He would spend as much time as possible with Sadie so that she could see he was sincere about his feelings for her.

With this resolve in mind, Gavin jumped out of bed, eager to get dressed and down to breakfast. With any luck, he would be able to spend the entire day with Sadie. After all, his main reason for coming to the lake house was to get started on his memoir. What better way for his ghostwriter to get to know him than to stick by his side?

He half jogged down the stairs to the breakfast nook, his stomach dipping in disappointment when he saw only Edith sitting there.

“Oh good, I’m glad you’re up,” she said as he entered the room.

“Morning, Edie.” Gavin put on a cheerful smile. “Anyone else up yet?”

“I assume you’re referring to Sadie?” She gave him a knowing look. “She’s eating breakfast out on the lower deck with Mike.”

“Mike’s up?” Gavin frowned, kicking himself for not getting out of bed sooner. He started toward the stairs when Edith held up her hand.

“One second there, Romeo. I need to brief you on the specifics of today’s schedule.” She waited until he made eye contact before donning a pair of reading glasses and swiping her tablet. “You’re rock climbing at Grant’s at 8:30, which Chad is willing to count as today’s training, but he said he’s going to work you extra hard tomorrow to make up for it.” She looked at him over her half-rims.

“Fair enough.” Gavin grimaced, but he was secretly elated that Chad was cutting him some slack. Training often took hours, and he didn’t want to give Mike an excuse to spend alone time with Sadie. “Is that all for today?”

She looked back at her tablet. “You have a video chat with Oliver after lunch to discuss the upcoming film, and then I’ve blocked out some time for you to practice your lines with Karla. She should be arriving soon.” She looked up, removing her glasses. “There were a few other items on your schedule, but I’ve cleared them for you.
