Purpose

The Purpose of the N.T.P.D. Community Relations Committee:

To promote community support for law enforcement efforts.

To encourage and increase cooperation between the police and the people they serve.

To develop specific programs in accordance with true needs, interests, and resources of the local community that will support the maintenance of law and order and the prevention of crime and delinquency.

To develop an understanding of police objectives and of the difficulties and hazards confronting the police officer in the performance of his duties.

To develop an awareness of the powers and limitation of powers of the police—what the police can and cannot do.

A recognition of the individual citizen’s responsibility in maintaining and preserving the peace.

To develop an insight into the police departments operations, especially its humanitarian, protective, and preventive services.
