Professorâs Visit
âWelcome to India Roman, is this your first time?â
Sandeep was looking forward to the visit of his PhD guide from Germany. Even after completing his study, Sandeep had kept in touch with Roman.
âYes, I am excited to be here, more so after the success of your venture Paybook. India is the happening playground of social media explosion today,â replied Roman.
âThanks for your timely suggestions that helped it grow in user base. But we havenât been able to make it a profitable venture yet. Our friend Satvik is worried about it,â replied Sandeep.
âThere are many ways to make money. However, what you guys are doing is something exceptional. You have created a giant network where every Indian will be connected. If we can write appropriate algorithms, we will be able to gain remarkable insights that can be easily monetized,â Roman replied.
âLook at the sea of people here,â he pointed to the crowd at Gateway of India, âIf you can control the activity and motivation of each of these people think of the power you will have.â
Sandeep never understood the fascination of Roman in this abstract thing called virtual power. Unlike Satvik, he was not interested in making money. His humble lifestyle as a university professor could be the reason behind that but he was no less ambitious.
âI teach students the evolution of human psychology of power and control. That is also an important topic in artificial intelligence today.â
âSince the days of cognitive revolution, humans have wondered about the most important question â what is the purpose of their existence? Sooner or later all of us grapple with this question,â Said Roman.
âThat is called spiritualism in Indian scriptures. Finding out the purpose of self and itâs relation with the world,â Sandeep replied.
âThe very first justification came in the form of religion. It professed that God has a cosmic plan and we all are playing our part in the same. The world is a battleground of good and evil that our soul should navigate through. The religion was a big fiction that helped people to collaborate, create communities and even fight a war. The purpose of life was to live as professed by the scriptures.
âBut soon science found that the religion itself is a fiction. The world was not governed by God but by some scientific theories that humans have discovered, and some are yet to be discovered. So, no God could stop the forces of gravity or basic laws of physics. During olden times humans believed that the plague and famines are caused by the curse of God, and there is nothing that can be done about it. With time they discovered that it was our ignorance that was killing people and not any Godly act.
âIt was not Gods that created humans but humans that created God to run their own business or to exercise power and control. However, this revelation brought the humans back to square one â what was the purpose of human existence.
âThe answer came in as â humanism.
