Chapter 14

Blake made her way to her office, wondering why most of the staff she passed since she entered the hospital gave her weird looks. She was happy to be home but, in many ways, she enjoyed their time together outside of Seattle. They arrived home late the night before after spending half the day with Alexandra’s parents and grandmother. She could say for certain that her fears about meeting Alexandra’s family, turned out to be for nothing. They were all wonderful, and she felt at home with them.

She had a brief conversation with Victoria when she pulled her aside while Alexandra chatted with her grandmother. Victoria told her that Alexandra always followed her heart and it's one of her best assets, which at times could be a weakness or a strength. She thanked her for being there for Alexandra during a difficult time in her life. But told Blake if she wasn't sure if she was ready for a relationship, she should let Alexandra know sooner rather than later, because she didn't want to see her daughter hurt again. She understood Victoria’s concern and by no means felt uncomfortable with it. She assured her that she wanted a relationship with her daughter and of her dedication to making her happy. They’d only been apart for a few hours, because Alexandra came to work before her and already, she missed her terribly.

Before she could close the door behind her, Miranda burst through it almost knocking her over.

“What’s the emergency?” Blake asked, barely escaping the door from hitting her in the face.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you got into a fight with Taylor when you were in L.A.?

Blake frowned, confusion marring her features. “How did you hear about that?”

Miranda’s eyes widened. “Haven’t you or Alexandra seen the news? Don’t people like Alexandra have media representatives who alert them when there’s gossip about them? You two are all over the gossip sites. Take a look.” She handed Blake her phone.

On the screen appeared a photo of Blake and Taylor facing each other at the gala in L.A., their body language indicative of a not-so-friendly argument. A photo below displayed Alexandra and Blake in front of Universal Studios kissing, and another with them looking at each other lovingly. The heading read, Showdown Between Taylor Kavanaugh and Dr. Alexandra Edison’s New Lady Love. If it wasn’t for the fact that she was the subject of the tacky headline, Blake would have laughed.

She sighed and handed the phone back to Miranda. “Like seriously, don’t those people have anything better to do? And they’re so unoriginal with that gaudy title.”

Miranda laughed. “I know right? But still, you have to admit that you two look like you were ready to rip each other’s throats out. Taylor more so than you. So, come on, give me the details about what happened.”

Blake rolled her eyes and gestured for Miranda to sit down. She told Miranda about her encounter with Taylor and her friends. Then about Taylor approaching her alone.
