Rori couldn’t wait to finish with her client. She struggled to focus tonight and that was unusual for her. Yet she found her thoughts straying and Sal’s voice echoing in her mind. Beautiful lips.
She was really thankful that she’d crossed paths with Charlene the other night. Her anxiety over attire wasn’t an issue any longer and that made her be able to feel more at ease about her date with Sal. She wanted to look pretty for him. The last thing she wanted was for Sal to regret asking her.
It was almost time for her to head to the station for her shift when her phone rang. “Hello Charlene. Did you change your mind about lending me that dress?”
Charlene laughed. “I’m not lending it to you. I told you, it’s yours to keep. I wanted to let you know, I looked everywhere for the belt. I’m sorry. I can’t find it anywhere. But if you want, we can go out shopping tomorrow and find something that will work.”
“I have this red sash. This morning I tried it with the dress. It was kind of cute, with a red bow in the back. I’m thinking about using that.” It also meant not spending more time running around at the last minute for something as simple as a belt. The sash was festive for the holidays.
“Oh red. I never thought about doing that. If I’m right, red is one of Sal’s favorite colors too.”
Rori was getting the feeling Charlene knew Sal better than she’d first let on. “I thought you were Sofia’s friend?”
Charlene chuckled. “I am. But you know how it is when you’re a teenager. I would see Sal in his police uniform and get all giggly. God, I was annoying back then. Okay, don’t ask Sal, because he might say I’m just as annoying now. Let’s just say he finds me…” Over zealous? “gabby. But he uses other words I’m sure.”
Rori definitely could see Sal rolling his eyes. Even now, with just meeting Rori, Charlene was like an open book. If Rori didn’t have things to do, she was positive Charlene could talk until the battery died on her cell phone.
“He didn’t say much when I passed along your message,” Rori said.
“Message? God, what did I say?” Charlene asked.
“Hello.” There had been a lot more than that, but that was all Rori was willing to pass along.
“Hmm. That doesn’t sound like me. But then again, it had been a long day. I remember one time when I”
“Charlene, I’d love to hear the story, but I have to go into work. Policy is no cell phone use in the building. Sorry.” That not only was the truth, but right now a blessing too. Charlene was such a sweet woman, but longwinded.
“Oh ya. I forgot you were heading to work. Well have a fun time tomorrow night and don’t forget to send me pictures.”
“I will,” she replied.
“And wear something sexy underneath too. That is definitely a get lucky dress if you know what I mean,” Charlene teased.
