Chapter 6
Ethan didnât get back until three in the morning, managing only two hours of sleep until he was roused for makeup. Not that he minded. The cake he brought back with him was well worth fewer hours of sleep. A pristine, fondant covered buttercream and vanilla cake with stenciled swirls drawn on with edible marker. He was so proud of his work that he almost didnât want to eat it. Instead, he placed it in his mini fridge, deciding to break it out for a special occasion. He wondered, vaguely, when Finn was having his birthday..
Finnâ¦That boy was something else. As Ethan lay along his bedsheets and stared at his trailerâs ceiling, he thought of nothing but him. Who would have thought that such an overly energetic little ball of fangasam could have been so considerate? In Ethanâs past experience, most fans got bored with him if in his company for too long. But not Finn. He wondered if there was anything that could upset him for good. Whatever it was, Ethan decided, he didnât want to be a part of it.
Filming continued all day, regardless of hangovers. For the most part, Saturday was scheduled for a few scenes indoors, a few re-done scenes, a couple more takes on fights and whatnot. But then, just hours before the sun began to set, Marty and the crew moved it to location. Half an hour from the stage itself was a huge, rolling cemetery that the producers had booked for the final, emotional scene. Finn, still allowed to tag along, drooled at the possibilities of what could take place there. He helped the crew set upâthough they were careful not to let him carry anything too heavy. Soon, a portion of the tombstones was blocked off for a night shoot.
By the time the actors got there, everything was set up for them. Apparently, there was a scene to be shot at night and in the rain. In Los Angeles, the chance of real rain was slim, plus it would quite possibly damage their equipment, so, the crew set up a rig ready to shower on demand, a little lightning machine set up behind it.
Ethan, getting out of the van that brought them there, smiled at the setup, smiling even further when he saw Finnâs eager eyes scanning every inch.
âAll right guys,â said Marty. âThis is the last scene before we wrap things up for good. Letâs make it count.â The actors all nodded, willing and ready to give their A-game today. âOh, and Gloriaââ The actress turned to him. âCan I have a moment? Just real quick, thereâs a change I want to make.â
She and the director went off to the side, allowing the others to go where they needed. Already in costume and makeup, Ethan made his way to Finnâs side. âBoo,â he said lightly. He turned, a bit startled. That jump turned into giddy chuckles as he cupped his hands together.
âOh man!â he cooed. âWhatâs gonna happen here?! I
