“Jared McClacken?” Elias scowls as I explain the goings on of the past couple months while the ladies are dancing. I’ve already asked Charlee if she’s tired and ready to head out once, but she simply kissed me and told me how cute I was.

I’d be cuter half naked and alone with her in my bed.

“How’d she get mixed up with that douche?”

“Don’t know man. I don’t know all the details.”

Maybe I’ll find out more tonight if we ever get out of here.

“Everybody knows that guy’s a grade-A asshole.”

“Yeah.”

“She came to the right place at the right time though, eh, Milo?” Colby nudges my shoulder. He takes another sip of beer from the bottle in his hand. “He’s been smitten with her since the day she arrived.”

Elias’s brows shoot up. “I would’ve been surprised if he wasn’t. You sure do have a type there, my friend.”

I nod and we both laugh as we say “Mila Kunis” at the same time.

“So uh, what were you doing in the gym?” Elias asks. “Or do I even need to ask.”

Colby’s head snaps toward me, his brows rising as he awaits an explanation.

“I had to kiss her, and I wasn’t waiting another goddamn second.” I chuckle, feeling only slightly embarrassed by my behavior. “I could’ve killed that jumbotron guy for putting his lips on her. I had to make it right.”

Colby laughs. “I wondered where you were. So, how’d it go?”

I sit back in the booth, swirling the remnants of my old fashioned in its glass. “It was amazing, as I expected it would be.”

“I’m happy for you.” Elias nods. “You’re a good man and she’s lucky to have you.”

Colby nods. “Agreed. So, you guys are officially a thing now?”

I shake my head. “Not exactly, no.” I take a deep breath and tell them what’s going on. “She wants to talk tonight. Says there’s more to her that I don’t know, and it could make me change my mind about her. Whatever that means.”

“What, like a third nipple?”

I laugh at Colby’s question. “That’s exactly what I said. I don’t know.” Sliding my glass back onto the table, I lean forward. “I mean it can’t be anything that huge, right? What could possibly make me not want her?”

“Does she have syphilis?”

“What? Why syphilis?”

“I don’t know. It just popped in my mind.”

“I can’t imagine she has syphilis, no. But that wouldn’t stop me from wanting her. That’s what they make condoms for.”

“She pregnant?” Elias murmurs.

Oh shit.

I didn’t think of that one.

Staring at my best friend across the table, my face falls and I shake my head, lifting a shoulder. “You know, I never asked. But she’s had plenty of alcohol in the last few weeks, so I would like to think that’s not the case.”

“You know I had to ask.” He winks. Elias is a new father because the one-night-stand he had at Colby and Carissa’s wedding during Mardi Gras ended up pregnant with his child. Lucky for them, they actually knew each other and ended up falling in love.
