Chapter Six

Damn if it didn’t feel freeing to finally get the alley murder off his chest. He’d done his part. He’d told the sheriff everything he’d seen and had even sat with a sketch artist.

Seeing the killer’s face come to life on that paper had shaken Triff. He’d felt like he’d been thrown back into that alley with those cold, lifeless eyes, and hearing the other guy dying.

Triff should have done more to help, but he’d been no match for the killer and might have wound up as dead as the victim.

It was now a new day, and he wasn’t going to keep living in fear. He was done cowering because of some dirty cop and a whacko who killed people in alleys. Cisco made him feel like a whole new man.

Triff walked into Kent’s Café and looked around. He hadn’t been in town long and hadn’t had a chance to explore. He worked nights and slept most of the day. He was also always broke, so visiting the quaint shops in town had been out of the question.

Until now. Not that he wanted to spend Cisco’s money, but secretly, Triff was thrilled that he was finally able to see what Willow Point had to offer.

He moved to the line in front of the counter and looked at the menu board overhead as Cisco stood behind him. Triff couldn’t hide his smile as Cisco slid his hands over Triff’s hips and rested his chin on the top of Triff’s head.

“What looks good?”

Triff wasn’t sure. He wasn’t a coffee guy. Not in the sense that he’d tried different flavors. He normally stuck to traditional coffee. “I think the cinnamon dolce latte sounds good.”

Triff just hoped it tasted good, too.

There was nothing worse than paying for overpriced coffee to find it tasted like crap. That was worse than bad sex. Triff would rather have no sex at all. But that wasn’t a problem with Cisco. The guy had rocked his world.

Even now, standing in line with a café full of people, Triff had to stop himself from turning around and molesting his mate.

His mate.

Triff couldn’t get enough of thinking or saying that. It seemed his bad luck had finally ended. It just took being mated to someone who wasn’t even human to accomplish that. Triff didn’t care that Cisco wasn’t human. The guy treated him great, and he wouldn’t trade his fake plumber for anything in the world.

He felt like a teenager with his first crush.

How crazy was that?

Too bad Triff hadn’t brought Waffles with him. One, he wasn’t sure she would have been allowed inside the coffee shop. Two, Fynn had fallen in love with her and begged Triff to pet sit.

Plus, Triff’s mind had been once again blown wide open when Cisco had told him that Fynn was a vampire. Triff wasn’t sure what crazy world he’d fallen into, but in truth, he was loving it.

It felt so mystical and mysterious.

“You have to try Gem’s raspberry tarts. They’re insanely good.” Cisco kissed the side of Triff’s neck.
