Les kept peeking at his phone, even when it didn’t vibrate. He hadn’t missed the amused glances Val and Niall kept shooting his way, but he didn’t care.

He’d met his mate, and he wanted things between them to work.

It had taken him a moment to get used to the fact that someone out there had decided he and Thedric would be perfect together. He still wasn’t sure that was true, and when he thought about it, he couldn’t ignore how different they were and how many problems it could cause. He was afraid that eventually they’d have to deal with that, but for now, he was enjoying the first stages of their new relationship.

He and Thedric kept texting each other. Les usually initiated the conversation, but then, he’d been the one to ask Thedric for time and space. Thedric respected that and let Les take it at his own pace, and Les was grateful.

Even though he was starting to feel like maybe it was time to change things a bit.

That was why he’d teased Thedric about taking him on a date. He wanted to do that. He wanted to take Thedric out, to show him off to people, but before doing so, he might have to tell those people who Thedric was to him. He hadn’t told anyone about the conversation he and Thedric had at the diner, and he wasn’t sure how to bring it up with his friends and family.

Maybe it would be better not to, at least for the moment. He and Thedric could get through this first date and see how things went, and only then decide what the next steps would be. Thedric had mentioned having important private conversations to get through, and the same went for Les.

Since Thedric had told him to organize the date, Les decided to go ahead. He had no idea what Thedric was used to when it came to dates and going out, but he could imagine all too easily, and he doubted anything he could come up with would hold up to that. Thedric was used to luxury, and from the way he dressed, he was rich. That meant he could afford to do and buy whatever he wanted, while Les couldn’t say the same. He wanted Thedric to experience his life and what he liked, so he decided to stick with something simple.

He booked a table at his favorite steakhouse, checked to see what movies were playing at the theater, and while there was nothing he wanted to watch, he kept that option open. Maybe after eating, they could take a walk? There was a nice park in town, and it was a usual place for couples to go. It wasn’t anything special, but Les wasn’t special. The sooner Thedric realized that, the better it would be for both of them.

Once he had everything ready, he texted Thedric again.

I organized our date for tonight. I hope that’s all right?

It only took Thedric a moment to answer.
