Chapter Five
Mia
âYou donât have to get all growly about it.â That low rumble had turned the request into a demand. âBut I kinda like that you did.â
âBy now you should know Iâm a fan of your art.â He ran his hand over his fully decorated arm. Sweet moon, was he ever gorgeous. And how did I miss that his nipples were pierced when we were in the shop the other day?
Iâd been trying not to ogle him.
Keeping things strictly professional. That worked out.
But now, moments after weâd confessed that we were each otherâs mates, we were doing this strip tease under the guise of admiring tattoos. I had really wanted to see how his new work had been healing.
And I was terrified to take my top off and show him. It was no secret that I was a curvy girl, and in clothes, I felt pretty confident. I could disguise the parts that werenât my favorite. Color, shading, textureâI knew how to bring things forward and camouflage the other stuff.
But without that, there was no hiding. There was nothing left to tell my story for me.
Our gazes caught. Blue eyes burned with desire. Heâd never looked more wolf than he did right now. This man wanted me. He believed I was his fated mate, and this voice that he claimed was my she-wolf agreed with him. That he belonged to me just as much as I belonged to him.
Which meant I better get over being naked in front of him because if this weekend went well, and these voices in our heads were right, we were gonna be seeing a whole lot of each other.
So I pretended I was some bad ass burlesque dancer and tried my best to make pulling my tank over my head sexy.
The look on Batesâ face said Iâd pulled it off.
My bra was still on. I wasnât ready for that. Yet. Thank the moon Iâd chosen a red lacy one this morning.
âYou have a wolf tattoo,â he said.
âYeah. Itâs kind of meta, but at the time, I didnât have a way to explore what it might feel like to shift. My parents wouldnât talk about it, and I was always afraid to ask in online shifter forums. Definitely a long-time lurker, never a poster over there. So the only way I could express myself was through my art.â
âI love it.â He traced his finger over the snout of the wolf that peeked out from under my bra strap. His touch sent tingles down my spine and awakened the muscles between my legs that pulsed in response.
The heat of his body intensified, and I didnât have to turn around to know heâd come closer. One hand reached for my shoulder and the other grasped my arm to steady me before his lips met my neck.
Oh.
His grip was firm and commanding, and I became putty in his hands. His lips danced over my skin, teasing the spot that was pulsing wildly. I leaned back against him, and his hands slid forward, covering my breasts.
