Declan

When I open my eyes, I’m a little confused at first. I’ve gotten so used to my condo in Seattle that for a second my bedroom in Knoxville seems almost foreign. It’s only been a little over three months since I moved to Seattle, but it feels like a lifetime. From what I’ve seen, it’s a pretty cool place, but from the moment we touched down in Tennessee, I realized how much I’ve missed feeling at home.

I wonder if Seattle will ever feel like home or if Knoxville will be the only place that gives me this feeling. Then again, maybe it wasn’t the city and more the company I was with. Vi and Tuck seem to be changing everything for me. It may be too fast or too soon to say, but something in my gut tells me that wherever they are, that’s home for me.

Glancing over to the empty side of my bed, I sigh. Vi and I have only slept in the same bed twice now, but it’s enough to have me wanting it as much as I can get. I understood though when she said she didn’t feel comfortable sleeping in the same bed in front of Tucker, at least until she talked with him more. I love how considerate she is of her son and his feelings. It makes her the best mom on top of being the best woman.

After a quick shower, I pad out to the kitchen in a pair of sweats, choosing to forego a shirt. I’m thankful I had the foresight to have the coffee machine brew a batch before we went to bed. It’s already ten in the morning, but thankfully, the coffee is still warm.

I pour myself a cup as I walk over to the living room and turn on the TV. Sports center is the last channel I had it on, so it automatically pops up, going over last night’s baseball game. Glancing around the room, I can’t help but notice how empty the place looks. I messaged my housekeeper, who comes once a month to keep up on the place and told her to take down all of my football memorabilia in the house and put it in the garage. I asked my mama to do it, but she flat out refused and hung up on me. She said she didn’t want any part in lying to Vi.

I’m not lying. Withholding some details, sure. But I’m not lying. And it’s not for long. I have to tell her today, since the gala is tonight. Last night on the plane didn’t seem like the right time since we were so tired, but I know I have to make time for it today. She’s already in Tennessee now, probably best to rip the band aid off.

Soft footsteps echo through the hall before a sleep tussled Vi emerges. She’s wearing a baggy shirt that looks to be about four sizes too big. It hits her mid-thigh and makes her look drop dead sexy.
