Chapter 26

Brody

They say every good thing has to come to an end eventually, which is exactly what happens once Adrian and I get home. I have to stop myself from grabbing his hand so many times every time it accidentally bumps into mine. We enter the apartment at ten PM and head our separate ways. Flooded with exhaustion, I keep talking about going right to bed, and I assume that was Adrian’s plan as well since I’d interrupted him from his nap. However, I am kind of hoping we would both make it back to the couch and fall asleep in touching distance while watching a movie. Laying in my bed alone has me missing the warmth of his body pressed against mine. I was never much of a cuddler with the guys I dated in the past, but I can see myself curled around Adrian on the couch every day from here on out.

I slap my hand over my forehead, hoping to pound the thoughts out of it. I shouldn’t have let us fall asleep together in his bed or on the couch because all it did was make me crave more. Now I’m longing for that closeness again. The sounds of his breath evening out as he fell asleep snuggled into me earlier allows me to drift off into the best nap of my life.

My phone blinks with a message from Nate.

Nate: Don’t forget to pick up your tux. It’s ready when you are.

Me: I’ll grab it tomorrow. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it.

Nate: It’s not me who is worried about it. It’s Sarah. She wants everything to go perfectly, and having the best man forget to pick up his tux could ruin that for her.

Me: Yeah, yeah. Sarah doesn’t have to worry about me messing up her big day.

Based on how things have been between them, they have a lot more to worry about than me. Nate and Sarah both have their own baggage to deal with, and the combination of both may stand in the way of their perfect happily-ever-after. Well, the only two people who can solve those issues are them, even though I think they’d both much rather choose to ignore things.

Besides, I’m too worried about my own issues to focus on theirs right now. I can’t stop thinking about Sarah’s amazing brother. Knowing there is only a wall between us is making it really hard for me to not walk on over and crawl into his bed.

I sit up in my bed with the blankets laying across my lap, staring at my door. Is Adrian even asleep right now? Maybe he is having the same issue. Maybe he could use some company? Before my feet can reach the floor, a knock comes at my door.

I look to make sure I’m decent before shouting, “Come in.”

The door turns open, and a disheveled Adrian appears in flannel pajama pants and a t-shirt. “Hey, I was having trouble sleeping and was wondering if, um… maybe you want to watch a movie with me, unless you were sleeping, and my dumb ass woke you up.
