Chapter 11

Dorian looked across the room when Leo stepped into the office. Dorian had been leaned back with his elbow on the desk, his jaw on his fist, while he listened to the recording attentively. He gazed when Leo’s heartbeat quickened as soon as Leo saw him. Leo had made it clear that he found Dorian attractive, and even more so after the marking.

Something had caught his attention in the recording, but he wanted to continue listening. He paused it as Leo approached the desk.

“Is it going well?” Leo asked and placed a cramped tray on the desk. He shared the two plates with scrambled eggs, toast, and some fruit, as well as two glasses of orange juice.

“Where are you going?” Dorian asked when Leo was about to walk away.

Leo motioned toward the chair in the corner. “So I can sit here and have breakfast with you. Or do you need to be alone in silence to concentrate?”

Dorian motioned Leo around the desk. Leo approached him. “Isn’t this the best spot?” he asked and pulled Leo by the hand to sit on one of his thighs. He couldn’t help but smile when he sensed Leo’s heart pounding with attraction. It was something that often occurred, yet only when he was around. Dorian wrapped his arm around Leo’s hips and pulled him closer. “I’m able to focus on certain sounds. You can eat.”

“If you say so,” Leo said and reached over to his plate. He held his plate up with the fork and began to eat.

“I’m almost done here. We’ll discuss your thoughts afterward about what happened last night,” Dorian said. Leo nodded as he chewed on his food. Dorian pressed play and continued listening to it. Leo sitting on his thigh with his plump ass was a tad distracting, but he wanted to help Leo.

Once it ended, Dorian put the headphones aside, drawing Leo’s attention. Leo looked over his shoulder at him. “Did you pick up on anything in the background?” Leo asked. He took a sip from his glass of orange juice.

Dorian got a strawberry from his plate and ate it. He nodded, and Leo stared at him. “Two suspects. Your client’s father and sister.”

“I knew it. They were acting strange,” Leo said firmly. “What about them did you find suspicious?”

“Their vocal register. They panicked, especially when you focused on them. The issue is that it’s not possible to know exactly why there were such obvious changes,” Dorian answered. He ate another strawberry while he held Leo close to him.

Leo placed his fork down when he was about to eat some more of the scrambled eggs. “Malcolm was sweating at first but then stopped. It didn’t fit with what they told me about him being nervous. Olivia was also restless during the whole thing,” he said. “Still, I’m not going to dismiss the others, and that includes Blake, the butler.”

Resting his cheek against the side of Leo’s head, Dorian hummed. None of them had revealed aggression toward Leo, so he could feel at ease that they wouldn’t hurt him.
