After successfully convincing the hotel receptionist that they were, indeed, dating, Erika finally pulled herself away from Quinn. She had to go home and get ready for their big group outingâand the official start of her fake public dates.
She hauled the dress bag up to her room and placed it on her bed while she showered. She took her time styling her hair and applying her makeup before she finally peeked at her ensemble for the night. Erika opened the garment bag and gasped. The gold iridescent Kiera keyhole dress designed by Costarellos was simply stunning and must have cost her boss a small fortune. The Esiot heels in matching gold looked expensive. Leave it to King Rayan to go big.
She slid on the dress, which fit perfectly and hugged all her curves. Just as she finished putting on her lipstick, her doorbell rang. It most likely was King Rayanâs driver. She grabbed her keys and purse and headed out the door. Quinnâs eyes widened when she got into the car.
âYou are absolutely stunning, Erika.â
âThanks.â Erika smiled as her cheeks heated. She wasnât used to compliments. Most of the time, she went unnoticed by everyone around her.
He reached out and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. âYou should wear your hair down more often. Itâs beautiful. Not that I donât like your bun, of course.â
She smiled again. âThanks.â
âAre you nervous?â
âA little. I donât normally get involved with anything FUC or BS related. I leave all of that to the experts like Harriet, Treasure, and Carol.â
âI understand.â
Within a few quick minutes, theyâd reached the restaurant, and Quinn helped Erika exit the back seat of the town car. Once out, he guided her to the entrance, resting a palm on her back. Heat pooled around the skin. Her body was once again set ablaze by his touch. Erika sucked in a breath. His hand moved away from her to reach for the door handle, and she let out a whimper, mourning the loss of his touch.
The hostess led them to King Rayan and Queen Consort Carolâs table.
âQuinn, Erika! Glad you are here!â said Carol with a smile that met her eyes.
âGlad to be here, Your Highnesses,â said Quinn with a smile matching Carolâs brightness.
âYou are absolutely gorgeous, Erika! I knew that dress would look stunning on you.â
âI should have known you had a hand picking this out, Carol. Youâve always had great taste.â
âYou arenât bad at it either. It was only last year that you came to Harrietâs palace to help me pick out a couple of ball gowns.â
âHow can I forget?â
âI took the liberty of ordering us some chardonnay to start us off,â said Rayan.
Erika smiled briefly as she sat down and welcomed the drink. It wouldnât take the edge off. No normal human alcohol would, but at least it gave her something to do in between what she assumed would be a lot of idle, awkward moments between her and Quinn.
âHow was your flight, Quinn?â
âIt was surprisingly relaxing, Queen Carol.
