I accept the invitation to deliver the annual Hecht Lecture. It is an honor and the emolument is princely. Please thank the trustees for thinking of me.

I’ve been in touch with Dr. Gillespie. The legal folderol should end between you two! I am willing to go to Australia with you straight from the Hecht Lecture to thrash the matter out. Gillespie isn’t adamant, he honestly thinks he’s right on the molecules. Australia is a long drag nowadays, even on this shrunken crab apple of a planet, but I’d do it to make peace between two scientists I admire.
