Chapter Twenty
I was eager to see the progress Noah had made on Bunnyâs project, but I didnât want to go by unannounced. I also didnât have the combination to the gate, so I suggested we could meet at the job then go have lunch. I could tell he was looking forward to showing me how far theyâd come.
I didnât see Noahâs truck when I pulled up, but I could tell men were working, so I went ahead in.
âHey there,â a voice called out to me. It was one of Noahâs friends.
âHey Billy,â I called back.
He came from the back and said, âNoah will be right back. Make yourself at home.â
Only a contractor or another interior designer could look at a home under construction and see the beauty in it. It looked great. There was still a lot to do, but I could definitely see it taking shape.
âIt looks great, Billy. Howâs it going?â
âGood,â he said, wiping his brow on his shirtsleeve.
I was dying to ask him what it was like working with someone like Bunny, so I did.
âWell, even for her age, sheâs pretty hot. Youâd better watch it,â he said with a wide grin. âSheâs still trying her best to get her hooks into Noah.â
I shot him daggers.
âNot that heâs been interested,â he stammered. âHeâs managed to get away with murder, though. Gettinâ her to do extra work.â
âIâll bet,â I said, shaking my head. âMind if I check it out?â I asked, but Iâd already started looking around.
âBe my guest. I need to get back to work,â he said, putting his work gloves back on and heading towards the kitchen.
I knew Iâd never be involved with this project, but I could picture it in a lake house décor, off whites and blues. Iâd keep the oak ceiling and open beams, andâ¦and then I heard Noahâs voice.
âHellooo.â He called.
âYoo-hoo,â came a womanâs voice right behind him.
I found my way back to the front of the house and there stood Noah with a sheepish grin on his face, behind Bunny, who was making her way over the rubble on the floor. He shrugged his shoulders.
âHi, you two.â I said, as cheerfully as I could.
âLook who I found outside,â Bunny said, almost cooing
âI see.â I said. âBe careful in those heels.â
âI was out shopping and I wasnât planning on stopping by, but I couldnât help it. I had to see what was new. Itâs looking wonderful, isnât it?â
âI think so. Itâs a beautiful home, Bunny. And when youâre finished with it, itâll be fabulous.â Boy, did I lay it on, and I could tell she was delighted.
âI told Noah Iâd take him to lunch, but he said you two were already planning on goingâ¦so why donât we make it a threesome?â
If Iâd had a drink, I would have choked on it. But instead, I quickly weighed getting stuck with the cougar, or not having lunch with Noah.
âLet me just look around, then Iâm ready to go,â she said. âBillyâ¦can you give me
