Chapter 9

Eli stared blankly. They shared another kiss, and Damon turned Eli to him on the chair, leaving the paintbrush aside, and rested his hands on Eli’s thighs.

Eli locked his lips with Damon’s. Damon put his thumb on Eli’s chin, slowly parting his lips. They deepened the kiss, their tongues entwining and swirling against each other. After a moment of kissing, Eli pulled away and tightened his lips.

“Do you regret it?” Damon asked, and Eli shook his head. Damon got a chair from the desk near the window and took a seat next to Eli. For the remaining time, he watched and helped Eli complete the painting.

Before they knew it, it was done. Eli looked at his work with satisfaction. “Do you want to keep it?”

“It’s yours. I only helped,” Damon said with a chuckle.

Eli offered Damon a nod. “I can hang it on a wall at my apartment, then. For now it can stay here since it has to dry. Maybe one of these days you can see it on display.”

Damon smiled. “I’ll take you up on your offer, then.”

Eli got up and stretched but stopped when Damon stood closer to him. “What is it?”

“I feel like kissing you again,” Damon said. Eli only looked at Damon for a prolonged moment, and Damon took that as a go-ahead. They kissed, and, this time, Damon rested his hands on Eli’s hips, moving him against him.

Eli didn’t know what to think to have gotten so intimate with Damon so soon. All he knew was that he had a connection with Damon that he desired to deepen. A knock on the door drew their attention.

“Three people in a van just got here. I think only one of them is an expert,” Silas said from the other side of the door.

“I’ll talk to them first. We have to make sure,” Eli said. He took one last look at his painting. He didn’t know exactly what would happen between him and Damon or how long it would last, but he didn’t mind getting to know him better.

They would probably get into a relationship, and he could tell Damon desired the same. It was a tad awkward since they’d started on the wrong foot. Damon had been making the effort to turn that around by how careful he’d become. Part of him didn’t feel as if he talked to someone he’d met only a few days ago. Damon made him comfortable.

With Maxwell’s artwork safely sent to a museum for storage, a patrol car accompanying the van, Eli waited outside. Damon and Silas had to make the last preparations to leave indefinitely. The expert had been known for her work. Francis himself had told Eli she’d been appointed to keep an eye for whenever Maxwell’s work could pop up.

Before leaving, Francis had offered Damon and Silas a safe place to stay until everything would blow over, but they told him they were set. Only Francis knew who they really were. Him not knowing could become a risk for them.
