We all walk out of rehearsal together, the four of us plus Javier, who’s saying something to Liana in a low voice about how they should go right back to the hotel (to get down and dirty as fast as they can, I assume). I check my phone: a text from Miheer asking how rehearsal is going. I start to respond, but get distracted because in front of me, Summer touches Noah’s hand lightly. “Thank you, for what you did back there. I owe you. Dinner, maybe?”

He turns to look at her as we open the door to the parking lot, and the paparazzi roar hits us. Right, I forgot that Javier turned us into the hottest attraction in town. We all smile and wave.

“Liana and Javi, over here!”

“Liana and Javi, turn this way!”

Back in the day, hardly anyone ever shouted Liana’s name. She’s become far more famous with him than she ever was without. The two of them hold hands. Javier grins, but his eyes dart back and forth. Is he . . . nervous?

“Liana,” a woman with a microphone shouts, pushing her way right up to the front of the fray. Liana leans over to her, ready to answer whatever question she has about how nice it is to reunite with her husband. “Do you have a comment about the fact that Javier’s mistress is pregnant?”
