Patrick O’Hanlon is having a drink at the bar of his local bowling club in West Belfast on Sunday night, July 15th. He is celebrating his sixty-ninth birthday. He learns that two men have damaged his car. He rushes outside. Two men in a Ford Cortina have crashed into his parked car. He walks towards the men, both republicans. They shoot him, a married father of three, a Catholic, a retired mechanic and garage owner who twice told police that his car had been hijacked. Patrick O’Hanlon is dead on arrival in hospital.
