Making Amends

Though I didn’t see Tate until Monday’s first lecture, it felt like I’d spent the entire weekend with him.

He never left my mind. He was at my side no matter how hard I tried to forget about him. I tried and failed to push him out of my thoughts. It hadn’t occurred to me that he hadn’t processed his father’s death after a year and a half. It hadn’t crossed my mind that I was only adding trouble where there was plenty.

For that, I did the only thing I knew how to do.

I worked.

Neglecting the requests to meet up on Saturday and Sunday with random guys all over my apps, I merged our two project proposals and sent Tate my final version on Sunday evening.

His reply was short and to the point and it woke me up around four in the morning. It made my heart jitter that he was awake. It pressured my chest that he had probably spent the entire day working for his stepmother only to deal with the project during the night. But seeing the name I’d given him in my contacts made me smile.
